Abstract

In recent years, research on music therapy approach in patients with Parkinson's disease have increased dramatically. The pioneers in this field took into account the consequences caused by the two main treatments to treat the symptoms of the disease: Drug therapy and neurosurgical treatment. The first is the most widely used, but its results are effective only in the short term, causing long-term situations that alter even more the autonomy and quality of life of those suffering the disease. The second involves a greater risk than the one generates by drug therapy because it is still under investigation and, therefore, its effectiveness is unknown. Considering the effects of such treatments, the researchers began to study what progress could be made in the motor level through non-pharmacological complementary therapies. Thus emerges music therapy, due to the existence of connections between the auditory and motor systems. This paper is a revision of literature which focuses on the use of rhythm as a means of treatment for movement disorders product of Parkinson disease, through the application of the technique of auditory-rhythmic stimulation.
